New Car Scenario – Ouch, the First Ding HURTS!

On April 19, 2012, in First Set, Mom, Second Set, by Jennifer McPherson

You know when you get a new car, oh that new car smell, the slick feel of your brand new shiny car. Then, you get that first ding, dent, coffee spill or what have you. The pain of that first ding, just hurts!

We just bought a new house. We have been in the home for less than two weeks. Honestly, I would have thought we could have held off more than two weeks before we get a single ding can’t we?

Ding # 1 – Hubby. He put up temporary blinds, attached them just above the window on the wall. A day later he took them down and along with them came the paint!

Ding # 2 – Hubby. He dropped a bottle on the hard wood floor and it landed weird and ended up putting a circle dent on the hard woods.

Ding # 3 – DOG & CAT. Seriously…. Our dog and cat BOTH have never been sick, but you know what. There is a first time for everything and there is no better time to have a dog and cat diarrhea and vomit party… On the new carpet! I am NOT even kidding people.

Ding # 4 – BEAU. She got her permit last month. For the most part she is doing pretty well! Three days after they laid the sod and created our insta-lawn, Beau was backing out of the driveway and rolled over a portion of the lawn (which was totally saturated from just being watered). There is now about a 4 inch tire track sunk in our lawn.

I am over it… I pretty much never got too upset (well except for the dog and cat mess – that is wrong on every level). Our house will be well lived in, just the kind of family we are!

When my hubby read this then asked what Ding have I done?  My reply was there is not much that can be done about being perfect – I am what I am!  :)   I will probably be the one who accidentally drives through the garage door without opening it or something like that!

What was your first Ding?  How did you handle it?

You redmber this … After hating our kitchen floor for 20 years, we finally had new laminate laid down. Within the first week or so, my fiest grandchild decided to cut fabric on the floor with a rotary cutter. .it was easierfor herto cut it on the floor. No problem…she used the rotary pad like she had seen me do. BUT while cutting she went about 8 inches beyond the pad and made beautiful slice right in the midde of the new floor! That slice has filled nicely with dirt which makes it very noticeable. Everytime Ilook at it I remember all the good times we had sewing and doing crafts.

Indeed I do remember that one Mom! My first born was the guilty party! It is painful but I like how you point out it reminds you of good memories!

Oh nOOO. For us, it would be a car thing. We got a BRAND NEW car and A MONTH LATER some douchecanoe broke into it. Shattered a window without tripping the alarm (crafty jerk) and left us a glassy mess everywhere that we’re STILL coming across from time to time.

  3. My middle son had a stomach bug and threw up on the brand new living room carpet. That wasn’t a huge issue… moms get used to cleaning up after kids. However, he tried to clean the spot himself… with a spray bottle of bleach, It left a wonderful ORANGE mark on the tan carpet. It looked awful!

  4. Oh my goodness, our last experience with new carpet was horrible! Our son accidentally flushed a pair of his underwear down the toilet– unbeknownst to us– and his underwear apparently wrapped themselves around the pump in our sump pump… and burned it out. We had at least 24 hours’ worth of dishwasher, showers (times FIVE!) and loads of laundry before our daughter discovered over an inch of water in the basement when she stepped out of her bedroom. Raw sewage. In our basement. $600 worth of one month old carpet had to be ripped out and taken straight to the dump, and we spent an entire day shop-vac’ing and bleaching the floors and remaining carpet that wasn’t saturated. It was awful. And we replaced the majority of the carpet with vinyl flooring that looks just like oak hardwood flooring. :)
