Our son accidentally flushed a pair of his underwear down the toilet-- unbeknownst to us-- and his underwear apparently wrapped themselves around the pump in our sump pump... and burned it out. We had at least 24 hours' worth of dishwasher, showers (times FIVE!) and loads of laundry before our daughter discovered over an inch of water in the basement when she stepped out of her bedroom. Raw sewage. In our basement. $600 worth of one month old carpet had to be ripped out and taken straight to the dump, and we spent an entire day shop-vac'ing and bleaching the floors and remaining carpet that wasn't saturated.
